I · The Story
Alliances are temporary, betrayal is inevitable
The empire is a corpse still standing. Four crowns hold its bones together with a peace none of them believe
in, East, West, South and North, each one banner-width from war.
Banners of Kings is built on that tension: cooperate to survive the early game, then choose your moment to
break the alliance that got you there. Every card you play is a promise. Every promise is negotiable.
We built this game around one question, how long can you trust someone whose crown depends on your fall?
II · How to play
A Game of Crowns and Cunning
Each round, players muster resources, march their armies across contested ground, then
choose whether to honor or betray the alliance keeping them alive. Three phases; one
irreversible choice.
Muster
Draw resource and unit cards into your hand, building
toward the army you’ll commit next turn
March
Deploy units onto the shared board, forming or reinforcing an alliance line against a common rival.
Betray
Play a Betrayal card to break an alliance at its most costly moment or hold it and pay the trust forward.
III · THE FOUR KINGDOMS
Every crown Plays Differently
King of the West
Gains strength in Grasslands (+1) and Deserts (+1), but struggles in Forests and Mountains.

King of the North
Gains strength in Mountains (+2) and Forests (+1), but struggles in Grasslands and Deserts.

King of the East
Gains strength in Forest (+2) and Mountains (+1), but struggles in Grasslands and Deserts.

King of the South
Gains strength in Deserts (+2) and Grasslands (+1), but struggles in Forests and Mountains.

The Court Behind The Crown

Aron van Gilst Rodriguez
Creator, Designer & Producer
Banners of Kings is a one-person project, created and developed by Aron from concept to finished game. With a background in Creative Business, marketing, and digital content, he has spent the past two years designing the mechanics, balancing the kingdoms, developing the visual identity, writing the rules, creating the cards, playtesting, and preparing the game for production.
As the sole creator and producer, Aron oversees every part of Banners of Kings, from gameplay and artwork direction to manufacturing, marketing, Kickstarter, and fulfilment. The goal has always been to create a strategy game built around warfare, negotiation, shifting alliances, and the constant possibility of betrayal.

VIII · Risks and Challenges
Playing It Straight With Backers
Manufacturing delays
Production schedules, material availability, or printing corrections could affect the timeline. I plan to confirm production milestones with the manufacturer and keep backers informed if anything changes. Delivery dates are estimates, and delays remain possible.
Print and component quality
Cards, boards, and packaging need to look right and hold up to play. My plan is to review production samples before approving the full run. If corrections are needed, this could add time to production. Any significant changes to the components shown in the campaign will be communicated to backers.
Shipping and delivery
Carrier delays, customs processing, and damaged or missing parcels can affect delivery. I plan to use protective packaging and communicate shipping progress as information becomes available. If your game arrives damaged or incomplete, please contact me through Kickstarter so I can investigate and work towards a solution.
Unexpected costs
Manufacturing, packaging, and transport costs can change between funding and delivery. The project budget includes a contingency allowance for unexpected expenses and replacements. Larger increases could still affect the project, and I will explain any material impact and the steps I’m taking to address it.
Managing an independent project
Banners of Kings is a one-person project, with me overseeing development, production coordination, and fulfilment. Unexpected personal circumstances or a larger order volume could slow progress. I plan to work through clear milestones and prioritise delivering the promised rewards before taking on additional commitments.
IX · FAQ
Questions From the Court
Banners of Kings is a competitive tabletop strategy game set in a crumbling empire. Gather resources, raise armies, and fight for power in a world where alliances are temporary and betrayal can change the course of the game.
Banners of Kings is designed for 2–4 players.
I’ve spent two years developing and playtesting Banners of Kings. Kickstarter will help fund the first production run and bring the game to players. Your support helps an independently created game reach the table.
Shipping is charged separately from the game’s pledge price. The cost depends on your delivery location. Please review the campaign’s shipping information for the estimate for your country before pledging.
The estimated delivery date is listed in your selected reward. Manufacturing and shipping delays may affect that date. I’ll share progress through Kickstarter updates and let backers know if the expected timeline changes.
I’ll post Kickstarter updates covering production progress, important milestones, and shipping news. You can also contact me through Kickstarter with questions about the game or your reward.
